TONY SARRE

Lincoln is a Fremantle-based musician, director, photographer, and arts mentor working specifically within community arts. Having initially met through their work on Working Dog, Lincoln and Tony have since collaborated as co-directors as they subvert filmic conventions, and strive to build an alternative style of directing which positions disability at its core. With a careful eye for detail, Lincoln’s work focuses on elevating the lived experiences of disability voices, while still maintaining their authentic creative control.

Turning to White

‘Turning to White’ is a Screenwest funded short film based on the true story of Tony as a young, legally blind hitchhiker, coming to terms with his disability. While thematically the text deals with the culture of disability, it also maintains this dialogue throughout its making. ‘Turning to White’ is a largely process-driven work in the way that it treats audio description during the pre-production stages; aligning the shot duration in congruence with the pacing of the audio description, and using audio description to intentionally elevate moments of tension rather than just describing them.

The Roadhouse Blues

An expansion of ‘Turning to White’, The Roadhouse Blues is a feature film which continues to develop audio description as an intertwined narrative element of the film’s production. Tony and Lincoln are currently in the pre-production phase of this project.

Beyond the Blues

Chronicling the making of ‘Turning to White’, Beyond the Blues is a six-part behind the scenes documentary which exposes the film’s directorial processes. As a team, Tony and Lincoln contemplate how to develop an accessible language to articulate Tony’s filmic intentions and ensure that he maintains creative control throughout each stage of production.
